March 1911, Parcel Post Receipt
(Bar-nameh) franked 10ch & 2kr perf.11.5x11 and
1kr perf.11.5x11.11.5ximperf (showing partial double overprint),
all short portrait, tied by
URMIA ?-III-11 postmark,
also showing DJOULFA (ARAX) 27-V-11 receiving postmark as well as
TAURIS 26-V-11 transit postmark. This
is the earliest known usage of these stamps,
even earlier than the earliest known un-overprinted stamps. These
stamps were not overprinted due to any looting of the un-overprinted
stamps
but rather just like the 1885-87 OFFICIEL issues,
these were overprinted by the postal authorities in Tabriz
to make the un-issued stamps yet authorized prior to their
issuance and distribution in Tehran. Although
these stamps were originated in Azarbaijan Province,
however, they were also used in some other northern towns in
contact with Tabriz and other Azarbaijan provincial towns and cities. |
